You can hear the double-takes from here. The Broncos took DeMonte Capehart at the 108th overall pick, roughly 29 spots before his name belonged.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach for Jacob Rodriguez in the 62nd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
DeMonte Capehart at pick 108 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, J.C. Davis well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on VJ Payne in No. 170, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A clean, defensible pick in the 246th pick with a little surplus value in Eli Heidenreich. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Adam Randall in pick No. 256, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jack Kelly in the 257th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
