Of all the ways to open, the Packers chose the head-scratcher, spending the 88th pick on Kamren Kinchens with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still wide open.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Kinchens where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will need Allen to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Kamari Lassiter went about where he belonged in No. 41. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Bullard at pick No. 58 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Max Melton at par in the 65th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A curious use of pick 88. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Kamren Kinchens did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Braelon Allen well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, McKinnley Jackson in the 127th pick. The roster fit checks out.
