Green Bay Packers

More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Joshua Cephus at the 216th overall pick is 40 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Greenfield makes the weekend a net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 29
In slot 25 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 39
No drama and no debate, Tyler Nubin went about where he belonged in pick No. 41. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 53
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braden Fiske in the Round 2 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 84
They did well to land Khyree Jackson in No. 88, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 126
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cedric Gray well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 121
A tidy little value on Javon Foster in pick 127, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 193
Elijah Jones at the 168th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 215
A reach for Josh Proctor in the 204th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Joshua Cephus · WR · rank 256
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joshua Cephus in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 220
They barely believed it either: Garret Greenfield still on the board at No. 243. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Kenny Logan Jr. · S · rank 251
Kenny Logan Jr. at Round 7, Pick 31 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
