Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Travis Burke at No. 257 is 49 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Orange at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Jadarian Price in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Max Klare in the 108th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Domonique Orange in pick No. 111 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Bryce Boettcher at Round 5, Pick 30 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Thaddeus Dixon at the 246th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good price on Nolan Rucci in pick 256, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Travis Burke at Round 7, Pick 41 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
