The Broncos put a flag in the ground for Taylen Green, 61 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They banked enough surplus on Stowers to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Taking Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 75 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Eli Stowers still on the board at slot 87. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Bryce Lance at No. 108 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Jude Bowry at Round 4, Pick 11, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeMonte Capehart well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taylen Green in the 130th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick 151, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on Kage Casey, who had no business lasting to the 170th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eli Heidenreich. A need, and now a little less of one.
Adam Randall at No. 246 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
