If confidence were a draft strategy, the Broncos would have aced it. Adam Randall at slot 227 is 48 spots clear of where he belonged.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Wagner makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached into another round for Jacob Rodriguez, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Sam Roush at pick 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drew Shelton. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kaytron Allen in slot 108 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Bryce Lance at the 111th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
DeMonte Capehart in Round 4, Pick 37 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taylen Green in slot 153, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A real head-scratcher, VJ Payne in pick 178 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Aamil Wagner here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jack Kelly at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Adam Randall this early at the 227th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
