The war room fell hard for Taylen Green, and it showed at slot 158: 32 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Rodriguez pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Circle this one: Jacob Rodriguez at the 77th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Max Klare at the 86th overall pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in pick No. 108: De'Zhaun Stribling for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Bud Clark went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaiah World this early at slot 119. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for DeMonte Capehart in Round 4, Pick 23, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taylen Green in the 158th pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in No. 159 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in pick No. 170, with Kage Casey worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
They took Dallen Bentley at par in pick 200, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Adam Randall, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
