The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 49 spots for Devin Leary, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Jacobs at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in slot 56, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Legette slid further than he should have, and pick No. 87 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylan Ford at the 173rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 38 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Frank Gore Jr. in the 231st overall pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Devin Leary at slot 242, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
