The war room fell hard for Cedric Gray, and it showed at slot 90: 45 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That Legette pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 24th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Somehow Xavier Legette was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 24, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Cedric Gray at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Keith Randolph Jr. in No. 124, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached into another round for Justin Rogers, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 174th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Myles Jones went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 37. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tanner McLachlan. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
