The Cowboys did not so much draft Zion Logue as overpay for him, 48 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brenden Rice at the 89th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jarrian Jones in slot 173 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trevin Wallace well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled JD Bertrand all the way to Round 7, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zion Logue at pick No. 242 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
