The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Ty'Ron Hopper, the No. 156 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 38. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Junior Colson at pick No. 87 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Leonard Taylor III in the 124th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Dixon at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Moose Muhammad III at slot 163 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Ty'Ron Hopper all the way to No. 174, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Christian Jones in Round 6, Pick 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Jase McClellan higher than pick 245, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
