The JJ Pegues pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 26 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Getting West where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. More want than need.
Tyler Warren in pick 61 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Andrew Mukuba in the 79th overall pick, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A real head-scratcher, JJ Pegues in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Addison West in No. 203 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Roc Taylor in the 236th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Luke Lachey in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
