Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent the 174th pick on KT Leveston, a name the board had a full 45 spots lower. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The King pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Junior Colson, who had no business lasting to pick 56. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach for Braelon Allen in the 97th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Brenden Rice in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: KT Leveston in pick No. 174, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Kalen King here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, JD Bertrand at Round 6, Pick 41 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Matthew Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Evan Williams higher than slot 244, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
