This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: T.J. Sanders, the No. 24 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 20. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 30th pick they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Wyatt Milum at No. 146 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Savion Williams still on the board at pick No. 203. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
T.J. Sanders at pick 236 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 247th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
