Washington Commanders

The Commanders bet the future on Daniels. The board says B-.

The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

The Milton III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

On value alone, Robinson makes the weekend a net positive. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.5 · Pick 5 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In pick No. 5 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 21
Chop Robinson slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 2 is lovely value for the edge rusher. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 31
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adonai Mitchell in slot 36. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Kingsley Suamataia at the 59th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 51
T.J. Tampa is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in No. 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 123
Theo Johnson in pick 123 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 126
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at the 124th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Jalyx Hunt · DE-EDGE · rank 151
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalyx Hunt. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.18 · Pick 154 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 157
They paid sticker price for Dylan Laube in pick 154, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
R5.19 · Pick 155 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
Joe Milton III at the 155th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.1 · Pick 176 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 197
They reached into another round for Myles Cole, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
A big swing on Tyler Owens at the 222nd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
