Washington Commanders

The Commanders bet the future on Williams. The board says B.

Future B-

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. With running back and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. The cost of the Cole reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 24
Value with a capital V on Amarius Mims in Round 2, Pick 4, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in pick 54. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 60
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malachi Corley in the 67th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Calen Bullock at the 91st pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at No. 93 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at slot 108, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 122
Theo Johnson in pick No. 113 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
Johnny Wilson in the 115th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 116
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 126 on Javon Solomon with running back and interior defensive lineman unsolved.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 133
They took Mohamed Kamara at par in No. 129, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 197
Myles Cole at pick No. 182 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
They paid a round early for Joe Milton III in the 190th pick, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
