Washington Commanders

The Commanders bet the future on Williams. The board says B+.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Owens has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
They did well to land Jordan Morgan in slot 40, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 38
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Legette went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
Patrick Paul at pick No. 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
Khyree Jackson in the 94th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 122
Theo Johnson in pick 114 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
They paid a round early for Johnny Wilson in No. 116, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.10 · Pick 146 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 157
A reach on Dylan Laube in Round 5, Pick 10; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 144
Value with a capital V on Trevor Keegan in the 152nd pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.1 · Pick 221 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 233
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevin Wallace a notch or two before his time. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
Tyler Owens at No. 222 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
