The real work happened on the phones. The Commanders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The Taylor III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in No. 40. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 3 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Spencer Rattler in pick 88, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Leonard Taylor III at slot 91 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Khyree Jackson in the 101st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Braelon Allen in the 138th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 181 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They did well to land Myles Jones in pick 220, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
