Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
If Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Adonai Mitchell in No. 35, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 55 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kiran Amegadjie in slot 69 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Max Melton at the 78th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Theo Johnson at Round 3, Pick 37 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on Johnny Wilson in the 115th pick, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Myles Cole in pick 184 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid a round early for Trevin Wallace in No. 222, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tyler Owens at the 241st overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
