The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Torrence falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
The board had Amarius Mims higher than No. 36, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Kingsley Suamataia still on the board at the 86th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Theo Johnson at pick 114 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 16 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in slot 145; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braiden McGregor at pick No. 174 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked Myles Cole enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 188. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Ro Torrence here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
