Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The McKinstry steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson is a better player than No. 33 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Kool-Aid McKinstry higher than the Round 2 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 54 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Malachi Corley at par in Round 2, Pick 23, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 67th overall pick, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at pick 80, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Hall Jr. at slot 91 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Cam Hart in the 96th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at No. 119 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Jarrian Jones in the 139th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Milton III in Round 5, Pick 34, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Trevin Wallace at pick No. 206, and the board did not agree. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They reached a country mile for Tyler Owens at the 235th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
