The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Cole has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at the 40th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Jordan Morgan still on the board at the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Braden Fiske at No. 67 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Patrick Paul was the payoff at pick No. 78. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 37 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Johnny Wilson in the 126th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Elijah Jones at pick 139 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Myles Cole in No. 152, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Magee in the 222nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
