Nobody had Baylor Cupp this high, and it is not close. The Commanders reached 97 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 27. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. That Bishop pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They took Xavier Legette at par in the 35th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Morgan at pick 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ruke Orhorhoro at slot 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Patrick Paul slid further than he should have, and the 78th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 81 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nothing to complain about; Caelen Carson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Johnny Wilson in the 114th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cole Bishop in the Round 4 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Mohamed Kamara in the 127th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Dylan Laube at No. 152, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Joe Milton III in pick No. 188 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Trevin Wallace, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value said wait; Baylor Cupp in the 247th pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
