Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Myles Harden got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at No. 254.
If Wilson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Michael Penix Jr. at pick No. 36 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Laiatu Latu here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Payton Wilson at pick 56. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Malachi Corley in slot 61 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kiran Amegadjie at Round 3, Pick 3 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Jaylen Wright was still sitting there in No. 85, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Johnny Wilson at the 100th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caelen Carson in No. 102. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Jalyx Hunt enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 118. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Erick All in Round 5, Pick 16, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Myles Cole in the 162nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 188 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Magee at slot 189 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Taking Isaiah Davis in the 205th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyler Owens at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Circle this one: Myles Harden at the 254th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
