Start where it matters. The Commanders took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
That Tampa pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in pick No. 36, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value with a capital V on Kris Jenkins in Round 2, Pick 29, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T.J. Tampa at the 73rd overall pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Khyree Jackson at pick 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Dominick Puni at par in the 91st pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the 114th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Johnny Wilson in the 116th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
