The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cody Simon fell into pick 236.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Savion Williams a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a running back like Dylan Sampson reach No. 90 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Luke Kandra at pick 106, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Joshua Farmer in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Tez Johnson was still sitting there in the 146th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ollie Gordon II at slot 235 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Cody Simon in the 236th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Andres Borregales in pick No. 247 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
