Boards are made to be trusted, and the Commanders shredded theirs for James Williams. He came off 32 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The veteran additions, Sam Hubbard chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kingsley Suamataia in No. 49 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at slot 57 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Junior Colson at par in the 70th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at the 101st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into James Williams at pick No. 103, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at the Round 5 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
