Washington Commanders

The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Gadsden II: B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Oronde Gadsden II got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at pick 183. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Reaching for Tuten left real value on the table behind him. The Myles Garrett deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Luther Burden III · WR · rank 13
In pick 29 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R3.37 · Pick 101 · Savion Williams · WR · rank 98
A tidy little value on Savion Williams in the 101st pick, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.11 · Pick 112 · Anthony Belton · OT · rank 120
Anthony Belton in No. 112 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.9 · Pick 148 · Bhayshul Tuten · RB · rank 159
Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 148 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.26 · Pick 165 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 170
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ollie Gordon II. It fills a real need, too.
R6.5 · Pick 183 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 141
Circle this one: Oronde Gadsden II at the 183rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.29 · Pick 207 · Chase Lundt · OT · rank 168
They barely believed it either: Chase Lundt still on the board at slot 207. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.32 · Pick 250 · Tonka Hemingway · DT · rank 249
No edge and no loss on Tonka Hemingway in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.35 · Pick 253 · Rayuan Lane III · S · rank 258
By-the-book stuff, Rayuan Lane III at pick No. 253 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
