The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
If Williams pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Davis pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 9 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Jordan Morgan in pick 39, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at the 50th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Chris Braswell at par in the 54th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zach Frazier in slot 66. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Junior Colson at No. 67 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 7. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Khyree Jackson in slot 90 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Leonard Taylor III in the 101st pick, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, James Williams in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
A premium they did not need to pay, Javion Cohen a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Daijahn Anthony at Round 6, Pick 30 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Davis here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
