The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Getting Rosengarten where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They barely believed it either: Cooper DeJean still on the board at pick 36. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Patrick Paul at Round 2, Pick 16 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in the 67th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Junior Colson in slot 101 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in the 103rd pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Christian Mahogany was still sitting there in No. 117, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on James Williams in the 138th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Roger Rosengarten at the 220th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
