Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent pick 150 on Jahvaree Ritzie, a name the board had a full 109 spots lower. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
James at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that.
Jihaad Campbell at pick 44 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Devin Neal at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jahvaree Ritzie at the 150th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nick Nash in slot 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan James at Round 5, Pick 33 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Willie Lampkin in the 174th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Howard Cross III in Round 6, Pick 12 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Cam Horsley in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Brandon Adams at the 249th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
