The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Cohen. They are betting Allen proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Drake Maye at par in the 3rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Chop Robinson at slot 36 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Tyler Guyton at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Johnny Wilson in Round 3, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in the 101st pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 103 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good price on Javon Foster in pick 136, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Braelon Allen in No. 138 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Javion Cohen in slot 181 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Braiden McGregor in Round 6, Pick 45, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
