Washington Commanders

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Holker: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Dallin Holker, the No. 147 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 5, Pick 34. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The Taylor III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 10
In pick 14 they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
They paid sticker price for Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 12, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 50
No drama and no debate, Graham Barton went about where he belonged in the 45th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 56
Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 50 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
Chris Braswell in slot 58 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 73
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 75
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at No. 77 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
Khyree Jackson at the 96th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 113
They paid a round early for Leonard Taylor III in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · James Williams · S · rank 135
Nothing to complain about; James Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 159
Braelon Allen at Round 5, Pick 16 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 171
They paid up for Joe Milton III at pick 160 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 147
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 170 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Tyrone Tracy Jr. · WR · rank 206
A slide stopped in No. 220, with Tyrone Tracy Jr. worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
