The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Dylan Laube, the No. 149 name on the board, sitting there at the 181st pick like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Jones lower, and that gap is the story. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Morgan at the 36th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
J.J. McCarthy in the 40th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Adisa Isaac in slot 67, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Khyree Jackson at No. 101 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in pick No. 123; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Isaiah Adams come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Drake Nugent at pick 152 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Laube at the 181st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Magee at pick 211 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Myles Jones at pick No. 220 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
