After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wright.
If Nourzad pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jayden Daniels and all.
Pick-by-Pick
Jayden Daniels in Round 1, Pick 10 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
In pick 27 they get a No. 1 receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the 50th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Chris Braswell at No. 55 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Adisa Isaac at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Junior Colson in pick No. 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in slot 72. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Khyree Jackson at slot 101 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Leonard Taylor III in Round 4, Pick 3 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at the 156th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Jaylen Wright in the 181st pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
They took Curtis Jacobs at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A conviction pick on Myles Jones at No. 220 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Austin Stogner is a better player than pick 224 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hunter Nourzad in pick No. 228, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
