Nobody else had Sean Martin anywhere near No. 246. The Commanders did, by 103 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Lawson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The veteran additions, Kamari Lassiter chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
They will replay Tyler Warren at pick No. 62 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Charles Grant in the 79th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Savion Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Cam Skattebo in Round 5, Pick 9, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to No. 161, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Bhayshul Tuten at pick 202 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jared Wilson in slot 235 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sean Martin at pick 246 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
