Washington Commanders

The Commanders let Allen fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-.

The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.

Allen falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In the end it comes back to JC Latham, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · JC Latham · OT · rank 18
In the 25th pick they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 34
Chop Robinson in the 36th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 35
Xavier Legette at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 42
By-the-book stuff, J.J. McCarthy at Round 2, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 75
A reach for Cooper Beebe in pick 67; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 71
They took Junior Colson at par in pick No. 70, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at pick 101, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 98
A clean, defensible pick in No. 103 with a little surplus value in Mason McCormick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 113
Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · James Williams · S · rank 135
James Williams at pick No. 138 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 159
Braelon Allen at Round 6, Pick 6 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 228
They went early on Myles Jones in the 220th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
