The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Wiggins steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
Every board in the league had Taylor III lower, and that gap is the story. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
You do not let a cornerback like Nate Wiggins reach No. 36 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at pick No. 40, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Zach Frazier in the 67th pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Leonard Taylor III at Round 4, Pick 3 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
James Williams in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid sticker price for Roger Rosengarten in pick 181, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
JD Bertrand at slot 220 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
