The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Ja'Tavion Sanders, the No. 54 name on the board, in the Round 3 slot.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In the end it comes back to Cooper DeJean, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Morgan in the 36th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 49th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at No. 67 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Ja'Tavion Sanders all the way to pick 87, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Spencer Rattler is a better player than pick No. 101 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Caelen Carson at Round 4, Pick 3 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They let Mohamed Kamara come to them and pounced at pick 125. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on James Williams in the 138th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value with a capital V on Joe Milton III in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
De'Corian Clark at pick No. 220 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
