The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The Corley value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Jared Verse at Round 2, Pick 4 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at slot 40 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Zach Frazier, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malachi Corley at pick No. 101 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in pick 103, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
James Williams at No. 138 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Curtis Jacobs in the 181st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Magee went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
