Thirty-one other rooms let Johnny Wilson slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at Round 4, Pick 1. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Powers-Johnson left real value on the table behind him.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 36. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in No. 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
J.J. McCarthy in slot 67 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Blake Corum at the 79th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Johnny Wilson was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Blake Fisher in the 103rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 138 with a little surplus value in James Williams. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Fair-plus on Jordan Magee, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy bit of business in the 244th overall pick, where Myles Jones graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
