They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chop Robinson. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 40, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in the 70th pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Khyree Jackson at pick 101 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Leonard Taylor III in No. 103; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy little value on James Williams in pick No. 138, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Dylan Laube enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 4. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Cedric Johnson was the payoff at pick 181. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Tylan Grable higher than pick No. 220, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
