Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The Barrett steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Reaching for Boyd left real value on the table behind him.
In the end it comes back to Caleb Williams, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
A quiet steal in pick No. 36: Jordan Morgan for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Legette in slot 53 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 24, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 70th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Blake Corum still on the board at the 101st overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Khyree Jackson in pick 103 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on James Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Khristian Boyd in pick 140 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the 160th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 173rd pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nice patience on Joe Milton III, who had no business lasting to pick No. 181. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Michael Barrett in No. 220, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
