Washington Commanders

The Commanders turned the phones into found money: A-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Commanders did exactly that with Myles Jones in the 236th pick.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. On value alone, Mustapha makes the weekend a net positive.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 58
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 65
Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 59 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 74
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at pick 63 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 62
Fair-plus on Zach Frazier, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 72
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in slot 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 81
Khyree Jackson in pick 73 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Cade Stover · TE-EDGE · rank 82
They paid sticker price for Cade Stover in No. 77, and that is fine. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 107
They paid up for Braelon Allen at Round 3, Pick 33 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Spencer Rattler · QB · rank 117
Spencer Rattler at pick No. 101 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 98
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · James Williams · S · rank 118
James Williams at the 118th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 127
They took Johnny Wilson at par in slot 120, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 129
Mohamed Kamara at the 121st pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 124
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at No. 124 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 131
Ben Sinnott at pick 134 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.11 · Pick 147 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 155
They jumped the gun on Kitan Oladapo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.1 · Pick 176 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 152
Circle this one: Malik Mustapha at Round 6, Pick 1 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 198
Joe Milton III at slot 181 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Eyabi Okie-Anoma · DL-EDGE · rank 264
Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the 220th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.16 · Pick 236 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 296
Value said wait; Myles Jones in the 236th overall pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 242
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Magee. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
