The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
Every board in the league had Jones lower, and that gap is the story. The Guyton pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.2
· Pick 2
· Caleb Williams
· QB
· rank 2
In slot 2 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Nate Wiggins
· CB
· rank 17
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Nate Wiggins in pick No. 36, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Tyler Guyton
· OT
· rank 27
Tyler Guyton in No. 67 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.7
· Pick 71
· Sedrick Van Pran
· C
· rank 77
By-the-book stuff, Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.20
· Pick 120
· Johnny Wilson
· WR
· rank 128
The board had cheaper options than Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 20, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.2
· Pick 138
· Javon Foster
· OT
· rank 121
Javon Foster in the 138th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.2
· Pick 177
· Jalyx Hunt
· S-EDGE
· rank 171
Jalyx Hunt in pick 177 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
R6.6
· Pick 181
· Curtis Jacobs
· LB
· rank 197
They paid a round early for Curtis Jacobs in the 181st overall pick, more than the board wanted. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.19
· Pick 194
· Eric Watts
· DL-EDGE
· rank 204
A reach on Eric Watts in pick No. 194; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.45
· Pick 220
· Tyler Owens
· S
· rank 228
They paid up for Tyler Owens at pick 220 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.13
· Pick 233
· Trevin Wallace
· LB
· rank 236
They took Trevin Wallace at par in the 233rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.19
· Pick 239
· Myles Jones
· CB
· rank 296
A big swing on Myles Jones at the 239th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
