The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That Jenkins pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
If Jacobs pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 4 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Patrick Paul at slot 61 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Kris Jenkins in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Khyree Jackson at the 80th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Brenden Rice, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braelon Allen. The roster fit checks out.
Johnny Wilson at pick 116 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A conviction pick on Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 181 that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid up for Tyler Owens at No. 220 when waiting would have done the job. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
