The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. With tight end, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In pick No. 2 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 67
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in pick 61, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 65
Kiran Amegadjie in slot 66 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 36
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 67th pick is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
They took Cooper Beebe at par in No. 77, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 84
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 107
A curious use of the 111th overall pick. Tight end, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 126
A reach for Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 16; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 128
They went early on Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Jalyx Hunt · S-EDGE · rank 171
They paid a round early for Jalyx Hunt in the 160th pick, more than the board wanted. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 236
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevin Wallace a notch or two before his time. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
