They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If Jacobs pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Guyton at Round 2, Pick 4 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Chris Braswell in pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 67 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
DJ James slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brenden Rice at No. 101 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Javon Foster, who had no business lasting to the 138th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Curtis Jacobs well ahead of where he belonged. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tyler Owens in pick No. 222 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
