The Commanders left with their quarterback, and a A- to match.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.

Owens has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 43
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at pick No. 40 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 50
They paid sticker price for T.J. Tampa in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 59
Kingsley Suamataia in the 52nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
Patrick Paul at slot 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at No. 80, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 96
Khyree Jackson at pick 88 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 97
Brenden Rice at the 98th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 107
They paid a round early for Braelon Allen in No. 99, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 126
They paid up for Johnny Wilson at pick No. 114 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 133
A conviction pick on Mohamed Kamara at slot 116 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Jalyx Hunt · S-EDGE · rank 151
No edge and no loss on Jalyx Hunt in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 198
They reached into another round for Myles Cole, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.20 · Pick 195 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
Joe Milton III in pick 195 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
A big swing on Tyler Owens at Round 7, Pick 2, well ahead of any board in the building. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
