They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Cole reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Landing Foster that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in pick No. 36, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Adonai Mitchell in No. 40, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Patrick Paul at par in the 67th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the 100th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Johnny Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 117. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Javon Foster in slot 139 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Myles Cole at Round 5, Pick 16, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Tyler Owens at the 222nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
